Surprise ! We are going to spend a year in the Cape Verdes to run the « Bar Tropical » on a beach on the island of Maio. Wanda will be moored in the bay but we will stay in a lovely appartment 10 minutes walk from our bar in the little town of Vila do Porto Ingles. We really fell in love with this island with its beautiful natural beaches, and are thrilled to have the opportunity to live and work here for a while.
The bar is situated right on a beautiful white sandy beach and we are thinking cocktails at sunset followed by fresh fish on the bbq. We would really appreciate everybody’s ideas, comments, recipes….
Right now we are in Dakar, Senegal, where we’ve had a brilliant Christmas amongst old and new friends from other boats. Tomorrow we head towards Gambia to celebrate New Year with our good friends from England, Janet and Nick. Then we go back to Maio to attack our new project with the grand opening in February sometime.

That’s fantastic news, we are back in Portugal, currently at the mouth of the Guadiana having sailed here in August from the Azores and were due to go back to Canaries but alas, weather didn’t permit it! We are now going to go back up the river for the new year, and maybe home for a few weeks late Jan/Feb. We must put the Cape Verdes on our list, would love to meet up with all of you again.
All the very best with your new project, and we’ll put our thinking caps on regarding recipes, is it mainly fish??

It was great to Skype with you the other night. I can’t wait to hear more about how it is going at “bar tropical”. We definitely need another blog update and some pictures!

This post above was nearly a year ago now (it seems the latest too)! Are you still at the Maio island running the bar at the beach?
Jim is nearing 1 1/2 now and i wanted to ask you Caro about that book you had about art and childran, remeber that thick picture book? I think it was about artists havong done works for theuir children or something?
We’re well, no travelling just good ald everyday life in a suburb of Stockholm. Carl has started school to become a church musician! He’s loving every bit of it and very busy with having to perform to all the private lessons he’s recieving (11 subjects!). And I’m working hard with the art organisation Mossutställningar, we had a great show called Cooking Catastrophes. Jim is a lovely chirpy chatterbox who spends his time at a supern day care near by.
